GIRARD, Ohio - A Girard family wants answers after their pet goat was killed Thursday by a dog.

It happened around 6:30 in the morning. Jessica Hidasy says she heard what sounded like muffled growling out her back door and that's when she saw a husky type dog standing over her pet goat, Garby.

"I came outside with my phone and then when I exited my back porch I approached the dog and it ran off and then I haven't seen it since and nobody has heard anything," Hidasy said.

When she got to Garby, it was too late.

"Deep puncture wounds to the neck and stomach and side area," Hidasy said.

Garby was a dwarf goat and was a gift from Hidasy's father to her and her two children about five years ago.

"The neighborhood kids come over and pet her, feed her," Hidasy said. "Usually in the Summer she has a little swimming pool, she has a trampoline in her house here so she is kind of spoiled, everyone gives her treats. She was almost like a backyard dog, she was just really, really friendly."

They don't have a fence, but Garby can run the length of the property on a lead and has a house and barn for shelter. Hidasy says they have never had any issues in all the years they have lived there with her.

"This kind of came out of the blue, everyone was shocked between us and the neighbors what happened to Garby because she had always been quiet in the backyard, like it has always been a thing," Hidasy said.

Hidasy was able to get some pictures of the dog and is hoping someone can help identify who it's owner is. She said the dog had a collar, so feels like it is a domestic animal.

"I do know accidents do happen but it is still a dog, still entered my property, still killed my goat so there is a lot of feelings to process about it but at this point, I definitely just want to identify the owner and whatever accountability can be held or should be in a reasonable situation like this, something to make it a little better," Hidasy said.
