CANFIELD, Ohio - It's time to 'say your final goodbye' to the gazebo that is a staple in Canfield's Village Green. At least until it's rebuilt, that is.

The City of Canfield told community members on Facebook that Tuesday would be the last day to visit the gazebo, as it's set to be demolished soon.

"Come by today or tomorrow and say your final goodbye to the Gazebo," read Monday's post. "Demolition crew will be out on Wednesday morning to begin the first phase of the Rotary Club of Canfield Gazebo Renovation Project."

Since the post, the date of demolition has been moved and is now expected to be some time after July 4.

The Rotary Club is heading the project, getting sponsors and raising money to replace the gazebo. The new model will include amenities that will better serve the community moving forward.

City Council member Anthony Nacataro tells us, the company responsible for the demolition is donating their time, labor, and dumping fees. That donation alone is worth about $20 thousand. So, the demo was set based on the company's availability.

The project started about three years ago, with plans to remodel and refurbish the current gazebo. But as time went on and the cost of resources increased, Nacataro says the cost of refurbishment was just as expensive as building a whole new gazebo.

Canfield City Mayor Don Dragish says the gazebo is run down and unsafe, and it's time for a new one.

As for the new gazebo, it's set to be a replica of the current gazebo. But, it will be three times as big as the current structure and made of higher quality materials that will last long into the future.

The bigger gazebo will allow for larger bands to play inside it, and will have a state-of-the-art sound system that will reach the south end of the Green.

It will also be lower, and have a ramp for handicap accessibility.

The project will cost about $250,000 total. The Rotary will have a table set up on the Green during the 4th of July parade to collect donations, with plans for the new Gazebo for the community to see.
