Boardman Subaru teamed up wit AdoptAClassroom.org to surprise Valley teachers with a $10,000 donation, along with 25 additional classroom supply kits during a back-to-school celebration on Monday.

The donation was made as part of the Subaru Loves Learning initiative, which helps supply high-need classrooms with necessary school supplies and resources. It will help over 500 students by providing teachers with $500 each to purchase these supplies.

In addition, teachers got some supplies for free from Boardman Subaru including pens, pencils, markers, earbuds, wipes and more.

Over 92% of classrooms have students whose families can't afford to purchase school supplies for them, leading many teachers to spend up to $750 per year to accommodate.

On top of that, 78% of educators report extra supply needs due to learning loss caused by COVID-19.

Glenwood Junior High Principal, Bart Smith says the school is so grateful to have partners like Boardman Subaru.

"The Subaru Loves Learning campaign has really made a big difference for our students and staff over the past several years supplying classroom materials, school supplies and helping us build and sustain a natural habitat garden that's vital in hands-on learning for all of our science programs," Smith said.

This is the fifth year Boardman Subaru has partnered with Glenwood Junior High and is part of a year-round commitment to the local community including partnerships with Akron Children's Hospital, Boardman Park, Meals on Wheels and much more.
