Liberty Local Schools offering $500 sign on bonus for new bus drivers

Just a few weeks ago on February 15, 21 News reported that classes were canceled for Liberty Local Schools due to a bus driver shortage. Now, the district is looking to fix that issue.
According to a spokesperson for the Liberty Local School District, the district is now offering a $500 sign on bonus or all new bus drivers who join during the 2022-23 school year.
We're told that the bonus will be paid in two portions. The first $250 will be awarded upon hiring and the second half will be awarded upon June 1 following the completion of the school year.
District Superintendent, Andrew Tommelleo tells 21 News that the district is trying to do all they can to address the bus driver shortage stating that this problem is persistent across the country.
"We've been challenged for the last few years to find drivers. It's not just liberty, it's a nationwide driver shortage," Tommelleo said.
