In recognition of Hunger Awareness Month, national dollar store chain Dollar General says they've donated nearly 400,000 pounds of food to Ohio food banks.

In a release, Dollar General says they've partnered with several food banks across the state to donate thousands of pounds of food, including to the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank and the Greater Cleveland Foodbank, which received 47,694 pounds and 732 pounds of food respectively.

In total, they've donated 393,466.59 pounds of food for distribution across the state and millions of pounds more in the rest of the country, in a combined effort with Feeding America to combat hunger nationwide.

“The movement to end hunger needs all of us. We are grateful that Dollar General is an important partner in that movement, as we work together to help people across the nation access the nutritious food they need to thrive,” said Feeding America CEO Claire Babineaux-Fontenot.

Dollar General and Feeding America began their partnership in 2021, combining the efforts of the country's largest hunger relief organization and one of the country's largest retailers. At full capacity, the partnership hopes to provide 20 million meals per year to communities in need.
