EF-1 Tornado rips through Windham Township

The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-1 Tornado in Windham Township Thursday afternoon, less than 24 hours after it ripped through the heart of the community.
Debris, branches, and roof shingles could be seen scattered across roads, a paper trail of the twister that went on a rampage through neighborhoods between State Route 82 and Center Road.
Stretches like Windham-Parkman Road, Bryant Road and Crestview Drive were among the hardest hit areas.

The Windham Fire Department, and agencies as far as Streetsboro assisted in cutting down trees that posed a danger to heavily-traveled roads, and clearing roadways.
"I called my brother told him let me know when the sirens go off--no sirens went off, told me go to the basement and take coverage and it was here.", said Carrie Gonsalves, a Windham resident.
Windham Fire Lieutenant Eric Mathews says a mechanical issue was to blame for sirens not sounding, but that he's thankful no one was hurt.
"Everybody that was accounted for at all the house, no injuries were reported. That was a blessing.", said Mathews.
Some of the houses were moved off the foundation and red taped. Trees were uprooted like the one pictured above on Crestview Drive. The homeowners says it happened so fast and that they're lucky they were in the right place at the right time.
"From 0 to 1000, right now I seen the trampoline in the backyard take off. We turned and ran and before we could get to the steps this thing was already on the house.", said Jacob Olson, referring to the tree on the house.
Olson says with holes in the roof, and damage to the foundation, they are working to get all of their personal belongings out of the house.
Cleanup is expected to take weeks maybe even months.
