EAST PALESTINE, Ohio - The legal team representing the village of East Palestine and its surrounding communities in a class-action lawsuit against Norfolk Southern in connection with the fiery train derailment in the village back in February of 2023 will hold a virtual town hall on Thursday, August 1 at 6:30 p.m.

The town hall will explain the claims process for the $600 million settlement, the upcoming August 22 claim deadline and recent developments that have increased compensation estimates for local individuals and families.

The purpose of the event is to make sure everyone who's eligible for settlement money is well-informed and equipped to effectively file their claims before the August 22 deadline.

Anyone who has questions on any aspect of the settlement or claims process is encouraged to attend this meeting.

The meeting will be conducted virtually via Zoom. Anyone interested in attending can register by clicking here.

A federal judge granted a preliminary approval for this settlement back in May of 2024 calling it “fair, reasonable and adequate, entered into in good faith and free from collusion.”

A final approval hearing has been set for September 25.
