Woman facing drug charge following three-hour standoff in Liverpool Township

A woman is facing a drug charge following a standoff that lasted about three hours in Liverpool Township on Saturday.
According to a police report, officers were called to a home on the 600 Block of Ninth Avenue shortly before 2 p.m. Saturday March 8 for a woman, identified as 29-year-old Katherine Cox, who barricaded herself in a room with a gun.
When police got to the scene, they found Cox in a bedroom barricaded by a dresser and other items according to the report.
Police say she pointed the gun at her chest and head before eventually saying "I should just shoot at you guys then you'll do what I want anyway. It would be easier." Police also say she mentioned using meth and that she had a smoking device in the room with her.
According to the report, police tried to convince Cox to put the gun down for about three hours before an officer was able to get her to sit up and move the gun away from her body. Police then entered the room, secured the gun and took Cox to an ambulance for evaluation.
A search of the bedroom revealed the smoking device on a dresser according to the report.
Cox has since been booked in the Columbiana County Jail. Court records show she is charged with one misdemeanor count of illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
She was arraigned on this charge Tuesday morning and is due back in court March 20.
