According to a news release, Brookfield High School is being recognized as a 'Purple Star School' by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW).

This distinction aims to recognize Brookfield High School, among its other recipients, for strong commitment to supporting students and families connected to the United States military.

According to the release, Brookfield High School is among 115 schools in Ohio to receive the award for the first time. Brookfield High School is also one of four schools in Trumbull County receiving the award for the first time.

To qualify for the award, schools must complete a series of required activities:

  • Designating a staff member as a military liaison
  • Maintain a webpage dedicated to resources for military families
  • Optionally, schools can complete one additional activity such as staff professional development, military appreciation events or celebrating the Month of the Military Child

"This recognition is a true honor and a reflection of the hard work and compassion of our dedicated faculty and staff," said Nicholas Wagner, BHS Assistant Principal and the district's Military Liaison.

According to the release, Brookfield High School holds events to support military-connected students, such as an annual Veterans Day breakfast honoring those who have served and a Military and First Responder Appreciation Night to recognize community members for their service.

The Purple Star designation is valid for three years. Brookfield High School will be eligible to apply for a renewal in the fall of 2027 to be considered for the Class of 2028 recipients.
